A Great Year, New Classes and New Training Packages!

2025 has been an incredible year!

So much that’s happened. It’s been busy and sometimes tiring, but I’ve enjoyed myself and I’ve had the chance to grow as a teacher, practitioner and as a business. I’ve met so many more new people and tried new things along the way as well.

I’d like to thank each one of you that have been part of this journey. Without you all, I would not be able to do the job I love and meet so many great people along the way!

At the beginning of 2025, I started new classes at The Yoga Shed in Hitchin (www.yogashedhitchin.uk) and at the Champneys Spa in Henlow (www.champneys.com). I was even invited by Champneys to teach at their 100yr celebration in the summer. These classes are still going, and as always, they help me to understand more about how to teach and what it is that people want to learn.

Teaching is definitely an ongoing learning experience. I’m constantly trying to balance keeping the classes interesting, while at the same time pushing everyone as much as possible, so that they learn and evolve as quickly as they can. It’s interesting trying to find that fine line between hardship and enjoyment.

I know when I look around and see a confused look in people's eyes, that I need to change and try another way to help them understand. It’s great when I see focus and concentration, and even better when I notice those rare ‘epiphany’ moments when you can see someone suddenly understand something on a far deeper level. Those moments are the best.

One of the highlights of the year was the 12hr Tai Chi-athon in aid of Parkinson’s UK, that we ran at The Howard Park and Howard Memorial Hall in Letchworth this October. Our final total raised was £2,911!

There was so many moving parts to making this event happen and I could not have done so without the help of everyone that joined in. I’d like to make a special shout out to Steve, Bryony, Cass, Adrian and Clive for helping me get the gazebo's and gear set up in the dark at 5am in the morning and starting the first class at 6am, and also to Michelle and Babara for greeting everyone that arrived and for running the raffle that raised well over £500 in itself! I’d also like to thank Steve Lye (a fellow Tai Chi teacher) for teaching two of the classes that day as well, and of course Bobby Singh (Howard Hall Manager) for letting us use the space. Also, a big thank you to Michelle, Philip, Christine, Sofie and Julie from Parkinson’s UK for all their help and support as well. And finally, I’d like to thank everyone that joined us on the day and those that donated too.

It’s incredible and inspiring to see what can be achieved when everyone is walking in the same direction! I’m truly grateful to you all and was humbled by the experience.

New Class - Monthly ‘Three Treasures Gathering’ starting January 2026!

From January next year I will be starting a new class, ‘The Three Treasures Gathering’. It will be held on the 3rd Saturday of each month at The Howard Memorial Hall from 2:30pm until 4pm. The first gathering will be on Saturday the 17th of January.

This class will be open to everyone from all the places that I teach, and to anyone else as well. It will cover different subjects as the year goes on and will be great opportunity to dive deeper into the Tai Chi and Xing Yi syllabus and to meet up with old and new students from the school, and people from all over.

I’d like this to become a class and space where we all meet up re-connect and train together each month.

It’s not always easy to find time for a 3hr workshop but I’m hoping 1.5hrs will be easier for people to work around. This will be £15 or will be included in the new updated ‘Ultimate Plan’ that is shown below.

I’m constantly looking for new ways to get people to start practicing these arts, or, if they already come to the classes, to train more. I really hope this works.

New Free Monthly Monkey Temple Online class starting January 2026.

I will be starting a new monthly online class that will be open to everyone from January 2026. The first class will be on Wednesday the 7th of January and run on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 7pm GMT.

Not everyone is able to join in with the face-to-face classes. So, this online class will enable everyone from all over to join in, take part and see what we do. The class will be run via Zoom. The link to this class is below.

One of the benefits of teaching online is that you can reach people from all over the world. So long as you have an internet connection, you can join in!

I’m hoping that this will be an opportunity to reach a whole new group of people. Especially those who may know nothing about Tai Chi and Xing Yi, or who just want to get a glimpse of these arts and join in. It will of course be open to the people I already teach as well.

Tuesday 6pm Class at the Howard Hall to be a Xing Yi applications Class.

We looked at this through the summer when we had more light in the park. In this class we are going to start looking at partner work, (this is a great way to improve personal skill). We will also look at how to use Xing Yi as a form of self-defence.

Xing Yi, like Tai Chi is a martial art. It has some very practical ways of developing force, moving, evading and striking. We will look at this during this class.

This is a good opportunity to dive deeper in these arts in a controlled and safe environment. This class is open to everyone, and I encourage all of you to take part.

New Year, New Start.

This idea is not always everyone’s cup of tea, but setting goals for the upcoming year can be a great way to ensure that we see some positive change in our lives and to motivate ourselves too.

For me, I have a few big goals this year, for my business, for my personal practice and for me as a person. I think the key is not to take on too much at once and I think, for me it helps that all of these areas are every much interwoven at this time of my life.

I still have a great romance for the arts of Tai Chi Chuan and Xing Yi Chuan. As long as I keep training, then they are never standing still. They are always evolving, so my understanding, skill and appreciation of them is evolving too. This is important, otherwise, we can become bored and complacent.

I have found that personally, these arts can affect a profound and powerful change on all aspects of us.

Because of the amount of time, we spend in ‘Sung’ (the process of releasing tension, sinking and expanding through the frame). Our bodies become stronger, our energy increases, making us more robust and healthy, our beath settles and deepens and our mind calms. With practice you’ll find that your character will also change. You can become more settled, grounded and content and happy around people and with yourself.

The body becomes a very comfortable place for the mind to be. Every time we release or Sung, we are also leasing the tension form the Mind and the breath too. We can end up doing this countless times a day and stay in this state for longer and longer periods. Over time, it all adds up.

I know there are many things in this world that can bring us joy and health, but for me, these arts are a true gift and one that I will practice for and dedicate my time to for as long as possible.

I look forward to seeing you all over the coming year and helping you as much as I can. If you have any questions, please ask.

Stay happy, stay healthy and keep training!
